Wilcox, Mary Clara Worden
Mary Clara Worden Wilcox (Syracuse, 1875) is the first initiate of Gamma Phi Beta after the Founders. She attended Syracuse University and was initiated on March 19, 1875. The Founders gifted her an engraved bud vase to mark the occasion. The Founders named her “Critic” at her first meeting.

On October 26, 1876, Mary was wed, making her the first Gamma Phi Beta to marry. She would later also gain the distinctions of being the first member of Gamma Phi Beta to become a mother and a grandmother.
