Frances E. Haven: The Artist

Frances, “the artist,” found beauty in every aspect of God’s creation, beauty that she often set down to canvas with pastels. She and her husband Charles had five children. The first of three daughters, Anita was born in 1879 and died in 1881. A son, Haven Haanel Moss, was born in 1882 followed by Mary Frances in 1884. The second son, Charles Taylor, was born in 1886 and Alida Helen, who became a Gamma Phi Beta, was born in 1896 when Frances was 42 years old. Frances’ husband, Charles Moss, became professor of classics at Illinois Wesleyan University and moved the family to Bloomington, then at the University of Illinois where they lived in Urbana for the remainder of their lives.
