Alpha Tau Chapter was installed at McGill University in Montreal, Québec, on September 26, 1931.

Members of Alpha Chapter (Syracuse) and Alpha Alpha Chapter (Toronto) established a group of women attending McGill University and obtained permission to petition in 1931. The fourth Canadian chapter of Gamma Phi Beta was installed by Olive Snider (Toronto), Helen Laidlaw Smith (Syracuse, 1929) and Jean McElroy Ellis (Toronto, 1928), assisted by an initiating team from Alpha Alpha Chapter (Toronto). Seven names are listed as charter members.
