Curtis, Eunice Adeline
Eunice Adeline Curtis (Syracuse, 1874) was born on December 22, 1854, to Reverend E.C. Curtis and Susan D. Curtis in Moravia, New York. Eunice Adeline, known as Addie, enrolled at Syracuse University in the fall of 1874, where her father was working as the University’s financial officer.

Addie was known as the “friend” among the four Founders. She was very kind, generous and cheerful, which attracted a large group of friends from all walks of life. Adeline graduated with a fine arts degree in 1878, after which she continued her studies in vocal and instrumental music.

On July 3, 1878, Adeline married Frank Lionel Curtis, with her father presiding over the wedding. Adeline and Frank went on to have two sons: Edward Day Curtis, born in 1880, and Kenneth Wheaton Curtis, born in 1884, who died as an infant in 1885. Adeline was the soprano soloist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Syracuse for 33 years.

Adeline passed away on January 14, 1923.
